MANY LIKES AND COMMENTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA COULD BE A SIGN OF A WASTED LIFE
Recently,
one of the young men around me observed that my Facebook likes and comments
decreased.
He
asked "Tolu e b like say you don dey unblow" (It is like you are
becoming unpopular).
He
continued saying that he observed that my likes and comments on Facebook has
reduced from what used to be 200 down to 5 to 15.
I
smiled and told him it is not a problem. It is definitely not.
I
still know how to get likes if I want many of them, but the truth is that at
the level I am now, likes and comments are not what I desire.
This
is the irony of the whole thing.
When
I got more likes and comments, I was less productive; I exhausted more energy
and creativity and got little or nothing in return.
But,
since I changed my focus, everything else changed. I got lesser likes and
comments, I exhaust lesser energy and creativity, but I am now more productive
and got more in return, even in terms of cash.
Something
changed, what is it?
I
discovered my purpose for writing and branded myself in that line.
The
truth is this, except you are a superstar already or you just do it for fun,
getting too many likes and comments on social media may mean that you are
wasting away, not only your most valuable resources, but also your life.
I
wasted my talents in this way too, for more than 8 years of what I called a
writing career, before I discovered my purpose for writing and followed it.
Those
times I got more likes and comments, because I was only writing what people
wanted to see, not what aligned with the purpose for which I was given the
talent.
However,
this is not just about social media; it is about you, your career and your
purpose for living.
Are
you sure what you are doing now is what you ought to be doing?
Don't
let people's approval get to your head, because in the end, the only approval
that matters is that which you get from your creator. This comes only by doing
what he sent you to do.
I
know you will hate to realize that you have been wasting your time in what you
call a career, but the earlier you find out, the better for you. Don’t think
you are too old and too big to want to do that now, remember that you will be
older and feel bigger tomorrow.
If
you sincerely wish to find out the purpose for your passion and talents, I mean
what God wants you to do with these potentials; then I will encourage you to
