HOW TO AVOID BECOMING AN UNEDUCATED LITERATE
We
all know that illiteracy is a disease, but not many of us know that there is a
disease worse than illiteracy, it is: literacy without education.
A
lot of people confuse literacy with being educated; but they are not the same.
You
may be able to speak the best of English language, yet be uneducated.
Literacy
is the ability to read, write and communicate in the official language of your
community. Anybody can be a literate, but to be educated takes a lot of efforts.
To
be educated means to have drawn out the potentials from within, in connection
with passions, and develop them for the benefit of oneself and at least, the
community in which one lives. Going by this definition, you may understand that
even with PhDs some people are still uneducated.
If
you go through life suffering from inferiority complex, because you are not a
student or a graduate of any higher institution, then you do not know the
meaning of education, neither are you educated.
However,
your lack of education has absolutely nothing to do with not being a graduate
of any higher institution.
The term higher education which
is believed by many to be available only in the universities, and/or in other
higher institutions, ought to be nothing other than self-development, which
must follow self-discovery, if education must perform its best function.
It is a tragedy that most of
these so-called higher institutions do not offer higher education.
According
to Napoleon Hill, "any man is a man
of education, who knows what he wants and knows how to get it, without abusing
the right of anyone."
This
further explains the truth that our system of education is faulty.
Majority
of the students in higher institutions do not know what they want and how to
get them, majority of them even graduated without any clue what they hope to
achieve with the courses which they have studied.
This
category of students remains uneducated literates, even if they had graduated
with first class.
They
lack basic education, which must be acquired before they get into higher
institutions and a part of which should be available in there, but are not
offered.
You
are an uneducated literate if you fall into any of the categories below:
You
plan to or have written JAMB without choosing your course by yourself, based on
your passion for it.
You
are in school and studying a course you do not have passion for, just because
your parents wanted you to do it.
You
are in school because you just want the certificate and be respected for it.
You
are a graduate of a course you can’t practice, because you studied it just to
be a graduate.
If
any of the above describes your current situation, then you need to register
