THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BEING SPIRITUAL AND BEING SCRIPTURAL
THE DIFFERENCES
BETWEEN BEING SPIRITUAL AND BEING SCRIPTURAL
For a long time now, being spiritual (spirituality)
is measured by being scriptural (scripturality), quite a lot of folks are
scriptural, thinking they are highly spiritual, but unknown to them, even
though being scriptural can lead to spirituality, it is also possible to be
scriptural and not be spiritual.
From the time of Jesus Christ till now, the world
has continued to witness scriptural folks, who have no clue what it means to be
spiritual.
Sometimes ago, I told someone he was only being
scriptural and had no clue what it means to be spiritual. He got annoyed and
steered up argument, accusing me of being an “I too know”, so I asked
him what spirituality is, expectedly, this guy, who could quote the scriptures
from Genesis to Revelation and wouldn’t say anything without referring to the
scriptures had no clue.
I have said it before and I am saying it again that “if
you believe all the scriptures are inspired by God and must not be questioned,
it is a testimony that you don’t know God.” I don’t mean all the
scriptures are not inspired by God, and the scriptures up there are not limited
to the Bible only. However, it is only gullibility, not faith that makes anyone
to believe all the scriptures are inspired by God and must not be questioned.
Someone once quoted a scripture written by Paul, to
prove me wrong in one of my lectures and I asked her who wrote the scripture,
she had no clue until someone helped her out. I proceeded and asked her, on
whose spirit Paul was writing, she said it was on God’s spirit; and then I
asked her, how she knew it, she said, “Paul would not have written anything
against God,” how did she know Paul was not writing from his own spirit
and not God’s spirit? What’s her proof?
She is one of those folks that believe everything
written in the Bible was inspired by God and like I said one of my write-ups, “there
is no folly as holy as that.”
Being scriptural; knowing all the scriptures and
being able to quote them off hand, does
not guarantee spirituality, in fact you can have all that, speak in
tongues, interpret tongues and still be spiritually shallow. In one of my most
talked about essays titled “SEX; THE
SACRED NONSENSE”, I defined spirituality as: “conformity to a higher deity; a
spirit believed to be higher than people, whom they depend on for existence.”
However, it could also be a conformity to ones’ spirit, lower spirits or even
inanimate, whom they believe are higher than them and should be worshiped.
Scripturality: being scriptural is, knowing
and believing everything in the scriptures.
Since the scriptures are written to lead people to
the higher deity, whom they depend on for existence, a lot of folks think
knowing them is the only way to attain valid spirituality, , but that could
just be the beginning.
However, judging by the definition of Spirituality,
we will see that being spiritual does not always mean Godliness, depending of
the type of spirit one is conformed to.
I stand never to be corrected, to say that the only
valid form of spirituality is the one that makes people conform to God, “Jehovah”,
known as “Yahweh”, “I AM” and “Allah” to the Muslims.
He is the only God that deserves our conformity, and all theists, regardless of
their religion must conform to him to be termed “spiritual”.
Several scriptures are written to this effect, but
inability to decipher them with God’s eyes is highly detrimental; it only
produces spiritually shallow scriptural folks.
I once said, “If long after I have exited this world, it
is said about me that a wise man has gone, it would have been because I chose
to know God beyond the prescriptions of any scripture and any religion.”
Does it mean the scriptures are useless? No!
The scriptures play a huge role in knowing God and
becoming spiritual in the right order.
I have read the Bible cover to cover more than once,
still reading and taking the Quran just as much, I have read about Hinduism,
Judaism; Paganism and several other religions, with a peer into their
scriptures, and these gives me an edge over the religious folks, who believes
God is contained in their so-called holy book. The totality of God is not
contained and cannot be contained in any book or scriptures, but it is
important to find out first.
Thinking God is limited to your scriptures is the
most foolish folly and does not guarantee Godliness.
You would only have succeeded in acting like the
Scribes, who knew the scriptures too well to know God.
How could they have known God and reject his son,
Jesus Christ?
How could they have known God and accuse Jesus of
evil spirit?
They tried to contain him in their scriptures, thus
they rejected Jesus, because his name was not directly mentioned in their
scriptures. That’s the worst of all follies.
When I hear people say “the Bible says” or “the
Quran says”, it only reveals their gullibility and a possible ignorance of God,
perhaps beyond the prescriptions of their scriptures and religion.
These books don’t talk, so how could they have said
such things?
If you can not mention the name of the person that
wrote a scripture you quote and believe in, and under whose spirit it was
written, you will have a very limited knowledge of God and even go against him
without knowing it.
Finally, it is good to be scriptural, provided you
read the right scripture; it is a very good start, but being limited to it,
especially if you have only read your religion’s holy book is highly
detrimental.
Sometime ago, I was discussing with a Lady, who had
contacted me, wanting clarification on one of my lectures, I told her to go and
read Quran from beginning to end, but she told me it was an evil book, that she
won’t read it.
How did she know it is an evil book, when she hasn’t
read it and won’t read it?
I have also talked to the Muslims, who said the similar
thing about the Bible, claiming it has different authors and it’s therefore
men’s ideologies put together.
These folks are only brainwashed, they are
faith-fools, not faithful, because knowing God takes you to be an ardent
learner, not just accepting anything passed down to you in the name of faith.
For instance, if you believe your Bible is the only
book through which people can know God, how do you convince Muslim to believe
in your Jesus, when he believes his Quran is the only book that leads to God
too and won’t read your Bible?
You are guilty of the same ignorance.
It is even written in the Bible: “test all spirits”
so what excuse do you have to be ignorant of God?
I tell you the truth, a lot of people will go to
hell, not because they don’t belong to a certain religion, but because they
have refused to learn.”
God is not limited to any scripture or any holy
book, you need to make your findings from the books that are written about him,
by not conforming first, then use of Knowledge of Good and Evil to discern
them, and then it will be easier to know God.
After finding out and identifying the right book
among all that you have read which is the same as letting the scriptures tell
you about God. To know God, at least to a reasonable level, you have to let God
tell you about the scriptures. Don’t have any opinion, just listen and you will
be amazed how well you would have known God.
