“Everything
has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and we learn, whatever state we may
be in, therein to be content” – Helen Keller
It
was a rainy Friday and the roads were flooded by the heavy downpour. The
ever bustling Lagos roads is seen calm but for a few cars scurrying, many a
pedestrian hiding in a sheath from the deluge of showers that seeped abundantly
from above.
Inadvertently,
a clarion call behooves not too far away from Ojuelegba to this haven wouldn’t
take a lifetime exodus but an astute willpower and this unfailing promise to
lit the faces of these gems with scintillating smiles and a unrelenting
assurance that we are all bound by the commonwealth of brotherliness and
love.

And
so, it was just a stone throw to the auspicious gathering, the reticent
rainstorms were oblivated and the sun glowed in all radiance of bloom and pomp.
Humans can now freely move about without fear of being drenched and/or catching
a cold; traders also displayed their wares and more vehicles zoomed swiftly in
their numbers as a caged bird just released from its nestle.
Beyond
the melodrama and prosaic nuances, the silent cries of a child is heard-not of
persons parse but that of the Pacellians (alias for students of Pacelli School
for the Blind and partially sighted), their agony not for the lost of the
proper use of their eyes but bemoans of being shut to the realism of
dreams-they yearned for an answer.

Mr. Israel, a Guest Speaker, doing his thing. |
Setting
the pace for an unforgettable moments with the Children, he made them realise
that true vision lies inward. He, a good story teller and songster reels fables
and folksongs which tings a resounding response from the obviously excited
pacellians.
Afterwards,
the guest speaker- Mr Israel Etim who is visually impair and an ace broadcaster,
talented writer and radio producer regales the sad story of his
blindness, the initial travails, disappointment and he triumphed
exceedingly against all odds. Remarkably, he says “I don’t have a mentor, I
only look up to God. He fielded questions from the crowd and he concluded by
saying Never say Never.

Poetry

affection.
