HOW MANY PEOPLE RUIN THEMSELVES WITH SOCIAL MEDIA
Gone are those days when the world was a global village, now, through
the aid of internet and different social media platforms, the world is a global
room, a room which gets smaller by the day.
The only way to stay out of this room, but perhaps still remain in the
village is to stay off the internet and all social media platforms.
These platforms are created for the purpose of making the world a better
place, but it can also be used as a tool of evil perpetuation by a lot of
people, and a source of self-destruction to billions. The latter is the point I
am trying to emphasize here.
While only a few people know the importance of social media and have
continued to use it with moderation and sense of purpose, billions of others
have resorted to abuse of such platforms in various ways.
A lot of people post just anything that comes to their minds on their
social media platforms, and the majority of others pull several
self-destructive stunts in order to gain attention.
These stunts, in the end define who they are. Surely, the beginning of self-destruction
for anyone on any social media platform is insatiable craving for attention,
which comes in form of any of the following: likes, comments and shares.
In order to get attention, majority of people on social media post just
anything. Millions of people do not even have lives outside social media
platforms.
Take social media platforms out of their lives, despite they are not
into any online business, then you will find out they do not have lives.
Surely, the best way to kill the majority of people, without committing
murder, is to give them free and constant access to social media. They will do
you the favor of committing gradual suicide with their posts. They would have
been dead, even though they may seem to live, before they realize the damage
they have done to themselves, if they will ever realize it.
Things most people post on social media, with the hope to impress keeps
the right people away from them; keep the wrong people close and keep them
people single for a longer time than necessary.
On social media, it takes thousands of good posts to earn you a good
reputation, but it takes only half a bad post to ruin it and replace it with a
bad reputation.
Lack of understanding of this makes a lot of people ruin themselves, yet
still return there to complain, even though they do not know they do so.
A lot of people do this and hide under the writing profession, but it is
not everyone that post online that can be considered a writer.
Anyone who posts online, his unprocessed thoughts is not a professional
writer.
This inability to process thoughts, convert them into writing and edit before
posting which has ruined the lives of the majority of people is common because
of lack of emotional intelligence.
Not many people know that the word 'emotional' is euphemism for
'emotional daftness', the opposite of emotional intelligence. This lack of emotional
intelligence has led many people, not only to ruin their lives, but also have
tainted other people’s reputation on social media.
It is easy to know emotionally daft people on social media; they post
everything that happens to them, almost immediately they are taking place. Such
as relationship break-ups, little disagreements with people on the street, their
conversations with others who had confided in them, their family issues and
just about every unnecessary detail about their lives with little or no lessons
for people reading to take home with them.
These types of persons are also in the habit of constantly posting their
photos, even when it is most unnecessary to do so. They just want attention and
will do anything to get it.
Social media provides a platform for them to talk before thinking,
instead of otherwise.
I was a victim of this, but now, I am a teacher – I have moved from
letting social media use me, to using social media for my own gain.
Now I look with pity and sometimes disgust, because of their
unwillingness to learn, a lot of people who are far older than me yet still live
in what I can consider my regrettable past.
Lack of emotional intelligence is common among people, but this
condition is further worsened by a very destructive personality disorder from
which the majority of people suffer, it is called Narcissism.
The working together of these two weaknesses has ruined the lives of the
majority of people, but the bad thing about it is that they do not know. Even if
you tell them they suffer from them, they won’t believe you; they will rather
see you as an antagonist and keep off you. The presence of both emotional
daftness, based on the symptoms mentioned above and many others, plus narcissism
is evidence of lack self-discovery and development.
When one lacks self-discovery and development, he becomes a slave to
everything he uses, which includes and not limited to social media and
internet.
Inability to delay gratification to review what one wishes to post is a
weakness common to the majority of people and it keeps a lot of people far away
from achieving their goals in life.
I know a lot of people who have not gotten married because of what they
post on social media.
There is a woman who I made a case study in this regard, and have
watched her break up from not less than three relationships within the space of
three years. She posts everything that happens to her on social media and consequentially
no man wants to be with a talkative, who could not keep things away from social
media. She remains a single mother, but she is yet to even learn her lessons.
