HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR PURPOSE

Introduction:
Purpose literally means the reason for the existence of a thing.
How then can a person discover his life purpose? Based on study and personal experience and divine inspiration, I have realized that there are four practical steps to discovering one's purpose in life.
I call them the four practical steps to discovering one's purpose, because these steps will require you to take some actions.

Step 1 — Consultation:
Many people are running the rat race in life thinking they are pursuing purpose.
They don't understand the source of purpose itself, hence their vain pursuit.
God is the author of purpose. Your purpose as an individual can only be revealed to you by your creator.

That step to purpose discovery is utterly indisputable. No man on earth can explain the source of man's purpose without tracing it to God, the Creator of man.
Therefore if you want to know what your purpose is, you must consult your maker.

It is practical. It involves you communicating with God. We've learnt a great deal about purpose, but if you really want to discover your purpose as an individual, you need to connect with God who created you. It Starts With God.

Purpose starts with God, which was why I said earlier that He is the author of purpose. So, in the quest to discover your purpose, the first step you must take is to consult God, commune with Him, ask Him to reveal what your purpose is to you.
Establishing a cordial relationship with God is very pertinent. If we established a pertinent relationship with God, we will have boldness to ask Him whatever concerns us.


The reason why many fall into diverse difficulties, in the quest of discovering their purposes, is that, they ignore the first step - consultation. If you want to genuinely discover what your purpose is, you must ask your Maker. That is the first step you must take. Another principle of purpose supports this truth, "Purpose is only found in the mind of the maker of a thing."
Understanding this first step and doing it is the bedrock and hub of every other step to discovering one's purpose in life.

Step 2 - Self Introspection:
I believe many of us know what self introspection is about, but do we know it is the second step to discovering one's purpose in life.
Having prayed to God for your purpose, it is very important for you to involve yourself in a self introspection exercise. The reason for this, is that everything that will link you to your purpose is already inside of you and God will not personally come down to tell you what exactly is your purpose. He can only reveal that to you if you personally take time to examine yourself.

This step is also a pragmatic step. It requires you to take action. In fact, it will require you to ask yourself some serious questions and find answers to them within yourself. Sometimes it may require you to take out a pen and paper and begin to write down those thoughts that run through your mind concerning the questions you've asked yourself.

Many of those who had discovered their purpose have done this too.
So, you need to understand that in the quest of discovering your life's purpose, you'll definitely get to a point where you'll have to look on the inside.

Each step is necessary to discovering your purpose, even if you have consulted your maker, that doesn't stop you to not examine yourself. God will not come down to speak back to you; He will answer you through you and within you.

Step 3 – Documentation:
This step is the third step and it is a vital step as well.
Having consulted your maker and introspected yourself, the next step is for you to document those answers you got at the stage of yourself introspection. As much as many people may think this step is unnecessary, it is still of a huge importance.

Documenting your thoughts or the answers that come across your mind during yourself introspection stage will help you take a good look at what you have written and while doing this your purpose will gradually be "screaming" at you. It may not happen automatically for you, but if you follow these steps, then purpose discovery is sure.

Step 4 - Proclamation
No one will proclaim your purpose for you, that job will be done solely by you! The moment a man discovers his purpose, he is bold enough to proclaim it. It is just like a sinner who just got saved, the excitement in him cannot be contained. It is similar to the case of someone who just found purpose too. You'll be bold to declare and proclaim your purpose.

We see this exemplified in the life of Jesus Christ, when He went into the temple, He said;
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised." Luke: 4:18.

That was a man who knew His purpose, who understood what His purpose was. The moment you discover your purpose, you will proclaim to yourself, to God and to those around you, not merely by your words, but by your works and actions. That is when whatever you do will gradually be having meaning.

These are the steps I followed and I discovered my purpose. Many of those who have discovered their purpose also followed these steps.
